The first step in the creation of a website is to get familiar with the different software to create your pages. You can also use a plain .doc or .txt, but this needs you to know how to code HTML which is the language used to display content on the web.
For starters I would suggest Frontpage which is a WYSIWYG interface (What You See Is What You Get). I would suggest as you create pages using frontpage, that you keep looking at the code on the HTML tab so on the long run you'll get a better understanding of the code.

If you have never seen HTML code and dont have a clue what I'm talking about, then, click the menu view on top this page and select view source. What you see is the actual code for this page to be displayed by your browser. Actually, I coded in XHTML, which is more strict than HTML, and some asp element might still be present because I changed twice the language during the creation of this website due to host issues not supporting asp elements.
